Dewsbury Learning Centre, Springfield Sixth Form Centre

Springfield Sixth Form Centre is the newest addition to the Kirklees College campus creating a state of the art, BREEAM Excellent facility for learning, with new and improved accommodation including motor vehicle workshop, open plan studio, food technology areas, classrooms of various sizes for use by business, art & design, health & social care and foundation students along with a second floor roof terrace.

The building utilises a former brownfield site located within close proximity to the Town Centre, bounded by Commercial Street to the north, Bradford Road to the east and Halifax Road to the West.

Batley Beck enters the North East corner of the site and runs across the Eastern edge within a culvert. This ultimately dictated the form and position of the building to ensure it was located clear of the current flood zones.

The building was completed throughout the early part of 2018 in readiness for the 2018 / 2019 September term.

The building is currently in use by the college who are extremely pleased with the final outcome.
